We know finding a job with a criminal record can be a challenge. The CRB is a Home Office agency designed to improve access to criminal related checks which are essential for jobs such as Child Care and Prison Jobs.Volunteer Jobs are also a good way to gain useful experience in the work place and offer a chance for potential employers to gain a reference about you. The CRB’s purpose is to prevent unsuitable candidates from working where they may harm children or vulnerable adults. Organisations may request potential applicants apply to the CRB for a copy of their criminal past or in the case they don’t have a criminal past proof of this also.
Minor convictions from over 10 years ago are usually wiped from the Police National Computer (PNC). If you have been convicted three or more times or for a more serious crime the PNC will keep this file for up to 20 years.
Your PNC record will be kept for the rest of your natural life life if you have been given a prison sentence of six months or more or if you were convicted of sexual crimes, violence, or serious drug crimes. For further information about wiping records, your criminal history, PNC you can contact the NACRO Resettlement Helpline on 020 7840 6464 or visit their website here for more detailed information.
