Particle Engineering is rapidly growing gorup within Blacktrace, specialising in Pharmaceutical and Biomedical applications. The group designs, develops and manufactures systems, instruments and reagent kits. Products are distributed through Dolomite Microfluidics and Particle Works websites.

Due to a period of rapid growth we are now seeking a bright and enthusiastic Material Scientist to join our team. This will be a varied role which will cover a wide range of aspects ranging from application development to customer interaction and support. The role will report to a Head of Chemistry within the Particle Engineering team.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in the lab, solid grasp of technical detail and proven ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences. We place a high premium on a keen willingness to learn in a fun and innovative environment.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

R&D targeting nano- and microparticles using continuous flow and droplet microfluidics Support of sales and business development teams during engagement of customers within biomedical and pharmaceutical sectors Work on short (3-4 day) customer-specific projects Installation of equipment at customer sites Participation in conferences and industry functions Particle characterisation using techniques such as Microscopy, Spectroscopy and DLS Assist with production runs by following set protocols Generation of application notes and marketing material Any other tasks required by the Particle Engineering team Required qualifications:

Educated to Masters level in Natural Sciences or equivalent Good written and oral communication skills Self-starting individual with entrepreneurial drive and passion. Excellent scientific, organisational and multi-tasking skill Desired qualifications:

One to two years’ experience within Pharmaceutical or Biomedical industry Educated to PhD level in Chemistry, Biology, Material Science or equivalent Experience with droplet microfluidics or continuous flow techniques Experience with particle characterization techniques including UV-Vis, DLS, FT-IR, HPLC Staff benefits include 25 days paid holiday per year (not including bank holidays), flexible working hours, pension scheme, private health insurance, cycle scheme and a ‘green’ car scheme.
