Data Scientist

Why you should join us

We’ve built up a team of outstanding and passionate people, and we work hard to keep them. We’re devoted to making Rotageek the best place to work, and so while we work really, really hard, we also have fun and look after our culture, too. We offer plenty of flexibility, amazing team events and lots of opportunities to grow.Your role

Data Science is absolutely core to the work that Rotageek does. We’re continuously developing our capabilities in this field, so there’s a great opportunity to apply research skills and to work in an explorative, open ended way. There are countless opportunities to learn and to progress, and we encourage you to shape the role in a way that best matches your research interests. So far, all of the Data Scientists that work with us are keen academics. They all chose Rotageek because we provide the benefits of working in industry without compromising on the freedom and ability to personalise one’s own direction that academia offers.

A few years ago, Rotageek was a small side project; our CEO, an A&E doctor, wanted to improve scheduling in his hospital department. Today, we’re a software company leading the way in reinventing how employees are scheduled.

We’re helping some of the largest UK organisations move from paper and excel based rotas to intelligent and interactive schedules. In doing so, we’re helping employees gain more ownership over their hours - improving their work-life balance - whilst making sure that businesses improve how they run their operations. We use intelligent technology to make sure the right staff are in the right place at the right time, whilst making the process of creating, communicating and modifying a rota as easy as possible.

You’ll be able to gather, analyse and present data really well. You’re happy to communicate clearly with both data science-y people as well as the wider business. You really want to build something new. You’re confident in suggesting new and brave ideas, technologies, methods and ways of working. You understand data and have an eye for identifying patterns, oddities and opportunities. You’ll build predictive models that can forecast the behaviour of key variables. You’ll create or improve product features using data-driven methods. You’re cool with documenting complex processes where needed. We try really hard to keep this to a minimum, but when it must be done it must be done and that’s that. What we expect from our Data Scientist:

We’re hiring for a level of skill that usually comes with a PhD or MSc + experience. It’s totally fine if you don’t have that, but you’ll need to prove experience in open ended research.

Experience using object oriented language (e.g. C++, C#, etc). Experience using statistical software (e.g. R, pandas, etc). Experience with database language (e.g. SQL). Demonstrated problem solving capabilities. As the ideal candidate you have:

Experience applying machine learning methods to large datasets. Experience deploying products. Experience leading projects. Apply!

If you think this sounds like something you’d enjoy and excel at, we would love to hear from you!
