Research Topic London Team Lead

Frontiers is an open access academic publisher based in Switzerland. Our mission is to revolutionize research communication through innovation in every aspect of peer-reviewed publishing.

The Frontiers Research Topic London Team Lead, within the Research Topics Team, oversees the training and development of the Research Topics specialists located in the London office. The London Team Lead helps ensure team efficiency, and is the first point of contact for all Research Topic specialists in the London office. Responsibilities as team lead include one on one meetings, helping the specialists to think critically about strategy, and liaising with the Research Topic Team Lead, based in Lausanne, regarding any issues. They are responsible for helping all Specialists within their team maintain a healthy pipeline, in order to ensure growth within their respective portfolios.

Additionally, the London Team Lead, within the Research Topics Team, is responsible for building Research Topics within a small journal portfolio. They work with interested scholars to bring together high quality Research Topic proposals, and facilitates the Research Topic evaluation process for Chief Editors. Within the scope of this part of the role, their goal is to ensure a continuous pipeline of Research Topic proposals for their dedicated journals, as part of an overall stable, viable and growing Frontiers business.


Line manager for Research Topic specialists located in London, and is responsible for their training and development. Reaching agreed Research Topic targets for the assigned journals and assisting all Specialists in the London office to do the same. Reporting to line manager on results and challenges, actively proposing solutions as well as working closely with the manager towards the team’s target as defined by upper management. Representing Frontiers at conferences and events, highlighting the benefits of the Research Topic project. Communicating with high level researchers to engage them in discussion regarding potential editorial projects. Establishing close collaborations with the program and journal managers to keep them informed of Research Topic initiatives and seeking their input and feedback as needed. Following up with Editorial Board members, particularly Chief Editors and Associate Editors, to engage them in Research Topics. Liaising with Chief Editors for the evaluation process of Topics, implementing feedback and monitoring timely decisions. Building relationships with key universities and institutes, in order to engage them in the Research Topic project. Requirements

Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s with previous relevant work in STM publishing required An outgoing, collaborative and professional personality A willingness to work in a fast-paced, target-driven environment Detail oriented, strong organizational skills People management skills Previous experience managing a target driven team preferred
