JOB PURPOSE

Work with Medical Writers and other staff to improve the accuracy, clarity, readability, and functionality of the materials they produce, in accordance with the project brief. Work with Studio to transform textual content into visually appealing materials without loss of the above qualities. Ensure that all materials conform to client style rules, DG house style rules, or other agreed guidelines as appropriate. REPORTING STRUCTURE

Reports to senior medical editor or scientific services director

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Degree level or higher in a biomedical science Top quality scientific editing, with skills to adapt content and style to suit different audiences Excellent attention to detail, good grammar and syntax skills Ability to apply feedback received, to ensure highest standards of quality and scientific accuracy are consistently achieved Strong project management and organisational skills, combined with some understanding of the commercial drivers of the business 1 year’s med ed agency experience advantageous, including strong evidence of teamwork Solid understanding of the process of drug development and the regulations that drive this in the US and EU desirable Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work in a high-pressure environment PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Work with Medical Writers and other staff to improve the accuracy, clarity, readability, and functionality of the materials they produce, in accordance with the project brief.These include live projects, pitch presentation materials, RFPs, proposals, etc. Formats include PowerPoint slides, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and a variety of other materials. Work closely with Studio to transform textual content into visually appealing materials without loss of the above qualities. This typically involves the reading and correction of layouts and proofs. Ensure that all materials conform to client style rules, DG house style rules, or other agreed guidelines as appropriate. Assist in the development of realistic project schedules by estimating time requirements, highlighting risks to the schedule connected with Editorial work, and suggesting mitigations where possible. Assist in the development and maintenance of house style documents. Help to spread awareness through the company of house style and general good writing practices. Assist in the maintenance of a library of citation styles for the reference management software in use by Scientific Services, creating new styles as needed for particular projects. Assist in the development and implementation of Darwin Grey SOPs: e.g. what to edit and when, how to observe GPP, etc. Liaise with clients to establish their style rules / preferences, and document them for general use. Liaise with client Regulatory departments to establish their approach to regulatory requirements, set up appropriate working practices, and offer feedback to writers and others as needed about these processes. Revise copy to incorporate client / author amendments, by agreement with the project team. Assist Studio and others with the development of creative designs, especially by identifying potential future problems that designers might not be aware of. Operate effectively within a limited time budget where required. Play a proactive role in distributing the Editorial workload effectively and in accordance with proficiencies, resources, etc., either independently, or in consultation with senior colleagues, as required. Support less experienced Editorial staff by supervising their activities as needed and providing quality control, coaching and other feedback as required. Coach, supervise or line manage junior editor(s), as appropriate, in all aspects of the agency’s business, and as directed by the Director of Scientific Services. Delivery of consistently high quality medical education and communication projects that meet project specification/brief, are on time and to budget Clear and proactive communication with manager, members of the account team and colleagues across agency to ensure key information about own projects is available in a timely manner PERFORMANCE MEASURES
