Description:
BAKER

Responsible for the preparation of all baked goods including breads, rolls, breakfast pastries, cookies, pies, cakes or other dessert type of products in accordance with brand standards and recipe specifications, with a concentrated focus on Forbes Travel Guide 5-star rating and Leading Quality Assurance standards (+90 points) while paying particular attention to Quality, Attention to Detail and driving Perfection throughout the hotel.

Responsible for reading and math skills for recipe development, as well as stamina and strength for lifting ingredients.

Responsible for keeping adequate supplies of all prepared products on hand and ensures the proper storage, product identification and dating, labelling and rotation of all products and refrigeration. Keeps spoilage and waste to a minimum by ordering and utilising proper quantities and rotating products. Ensure that oven temperature is following the type of product being baked. Adjust thermostats to ensure that appropriate heat is being transmitted. Guarantee that correct quantities of batches are being made. Responsible for appropriate storage of baking utensils and supplies. Make sure that baking equipment is cleaned and maintained properly. Ensure compliance with food safety standards. Requirements

Education & Experience

Culinary Apprenticeship program from a two-year academic institution or experience as a Baker, Pastry Chef or similar role. Must have exceptionally high sanitation standards Must possess Food Handlers Certification. Must have working knowledge of baking standard recipes and food products such as dough’s, fillings and other culinary items. Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders and dough sheeters. Understanding of food safety practices. Certification from a culinary school is a plus Flexibility to work early morning shifts.

Language Skills: Fluency in English, both written and verbal. Experience with cake decoration techniques. Excellent time-management skills. Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment. Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude.
