We’re a small, friendly team of 20, attempting to solve the biggest problem facing small businesses - cashflow.

We’re using engineering and machine learning to provide real-time forecasting that really helps small businesses and their accountants to be more confident in their decisions, and allow business owners to sleep a little better at night! We recently got recognised for our hard work by making into Wired’s top 10 European startups.

We’re now looking for a collaborative and humble Data Scientist to help us build an automated forecasting system and cashflow recommendations engine whilst working with some amazing engineers and data scientists to make that happen.

Where you can have impact

You will have opportunity to work on established systems as well as start projects from scratch - in both cases you’ll have a lot of autonomy and the chance to make a big impact. We’ll need someone happy taking the initiative and communicating your decision making process as well. As data science is at the heart of our product, data scientists have significant input to ideation and product direction - your opinions really will influence our roadmap. Data science at Fluidly is not a Kaggle competition - your models will have impact across the codebase and you need consider the constraints of the production environment. This means solutions come from being creative, pragmatic and thinking laterally - it’s tough but far more rewarding than laptop data science! We have a very strong data engineering team that oversee data infrastructure and processing. Working with them, data scientists can have a massive impact in improving ML tooling and the way we operationalise our models. Requirements

Who you are

Are an experienced Python developer that is happy writing production code for data science/ML projects. Have a strong quantitative background and scientific mindset. Experience with modern machine learning tooling is a big benefit when working with our data engineers. You must be very comfortable with the Python data science stack (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn etc.). You are customer centric and work well with product owners. Knowledge:

You’re ideally product focused and understand the balance between speed of delivery and quality. If you have experienced scaling a system / team that’s also great, we would love people who have built up experience in this area. You’ve failed at things before. You’ve seen it, lived it and learnt from it and can help us identify potential pitfalls. You have an entrepreneurial streak, with some great examples of how you saw an opportunity and made it happen. Knowledge of accounting/finance a bonus. Are a pragmatist via experience that will choose stability, results and user experience over the shiniest ML approach. Behaviours:

Have a broad knowledge base and passion for statistical and machine learning theory (however, a formal qualification in ML/stats is not required). Enjoy analysis and problem solving but care most about seeing the results of your research being successfully deployed in product. You’re a great communicator and want to understand the commercial impact and play nicely with product. You know when to be decisive and when to ensure decisions are made quickly and efficiently. You have strong opinions weakly held - you can defend a position, but give it up easily when consensus is against you even if you're right. You’re humble, no room for brilliant jerks. You’re a strong team player, knows how to get others to work well together. Have a strong quantitative background and scientific mindset. Benefits

We’re one of Wired magazine’s top 10 London startups 2018, have been selected for the FinTech50 2018 “Hot 10” list and we’re one of 12 finalists for the Nesta Open Up challenge.
