An exciting opportunity has arisen to join City Hall as Assistant Director for Health, Education and Youth. The successful candidate will lead a unit working on a range of high-priority issues and projects related to health inequalities and health improvement; the health and social care system; and issues affecting young people in London, including early years and education.

Leading a team of approximately 50 staff, the successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Mayor, and his deputy mayors and advisers, at a crucial period of change and challenge. This includes delivering on the ambitions of the Mayor’s newly-published Health Inequalities Strategy; working with senior stakeholders to ensure that London’s health and care system meets the changing needs of the population; effective delivery of the £45m Young Londoners Fund; and working with young people to ensure that they can take advantage of all the opportunities that London has to offer.

The GLA is looking for a candidate with senior-level experience and expertise in health in particular, who can build partnerships across the city to deliver better outcomes for Londoners. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a good understanding of current regional health issues (including devolution), the ability to operate effectively in complex institutional contexts and build effective relationships with stakeholders. They will also have a strong track record of achieving results through both policy change and programme delivery.
