By Miles is a technology startup based in Hammersmith that’s revolutionising car insurance. In the face of a £15 billion industry, we’ve built the UK’s first real-time pay-by-mile car insurance policies with a smart driving app, bringing the same level of on-demand convenience to car ownership that people now expect from taxis and take-away food.

We launched in the UK in July 2018 and our highly-engaged member base is growing quickly. We’re expanding our marketing and customer support team to make our brand (even more) famous, bringing the benefits of smarter and fairer car insurance to more motorists. We’re looking for a creative and energetic community manager/content writer who can help keep both current and future policyholders excited about the future of pay-by-mile.

You’ll be a skilled, versatile writer with a keen eye for detail, as comfortable using emojis as you are with semi-colons. While you’ll be disciplined enough to stick to guidelines when needed – you should have the wit and charm to rewrite them too (when appropriate).

As car insurance is a legal requirement in the UK, it’s a product that appeals to many different types of people. Our members are from all over the country, aged from 25 through to 76, and we know we can only keep doing our best work with a diverse team that reflects that.

If you’re proactive, organised and able to work both with a team and independently, we’d love to hear from you. Help our community thrive, solve problems and come up with new ways to keep our customer base happy.

Requirements

You will be:

Engaging and growing a community of drivers, whether already By Miles members, future customers or just people that find our content helpful. Leading the writing, creation and delivery of a content timeline for our website, producing regular articles for our member magazine, sometimes with the help of specialist writers and experts. Managing social platforms, primarily Facebook and Twitter – creating and curating an engaging content plan to excite and grow our follower-base. Building a long-term social media strategy and tone of voice. Delivering regular reports and updates on the performance of our social media channels. Conducting user and market research by writing and running surveys, focus groups and face-to-face testing or interviews. Managing an engaged community of tech-savvy members to test our upcoming app features. Organising stands at shows, malls conferences and events, and demonstrating our product. Responding to customer reviews on third party sites like Trustpilot and mobile app stores. Working with our marketing and product teams to write copy that can help, surprise and delight users of our service. This could be for anything from digital ads or emails, through to to in-app error & success messages. Building and maintaining email mailing lists and managing email sends with the support of the marketing team. Improving the SEO performance of our website and magazine. Chipping in to help our customer support team answer and resolve customer queries through our in-app messenger, on the phone, on social media or via email if needed. This role will primarily be based in our London office (so wouldn't be suitable for someone looking to work remotely full time), but we're always open to remote or more flexible working arrangements if travel, childcare or something else gets in the way. This is subject to our flexible working policy, and we can discuss this in more detail if you come for interview.

We’d like to meet someone with:

A degree in English Literature or Language, Creative Writing and/or a minimum of two years of digital content and social media experience. Great written communication skills, with experience in copywriting and proofreading a range of material, from long-form blogs to short and snappy tweets. Experience in writing for SEO. An excellent attention to detail. A keen interest in technology and a desire to understand our product inside out. A positive outlook, patience and a good sense of humour. A track record of successfully growing a project or brand.

Bonus points if you:

Have prior experience of using CMS platforms like Ghost or email platforms like Mailchimp or Mailerlite. Have experience running blogger or influencer outreach campaigns. Have experience working at or with an early stage startup. Have previously written copy for in-app features or digital products. Know how to use any programmes from Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign primarily) or Sketch. Have had any exposure (however limited) to coding, HTML or front-end development.
