McKesson Global Procurement & Sourcing Ltd (MGPSL) was established in London to achieve purchasing synergies for the McKesson group by capitalizing on McKesson’s global scale and capabilities. MGPSL develops and drives the private label sourcing strategy for pharmaceuticals and medical/surgical equipment for the organization. MGPSL is also responsible for negotiating global agreements and developing strategic partnerships with the pharmaceutical industry’s leading generic pharmaceutical suppliers and is developing a clinical trial product sourcing business.

MGPSL is a rapidly expanding entrepreneurial organization and requires a commercially minded UK qualified lawyer to join its team in London in a wide-ranging, business focused role with great potential for career development. 


Acts as lawyer to support (i) McKesson’s medical and surgical equipment business unit in all matters arising, including all aspects of contract drafting, negotiating and maintenance with suppliers and internal customer entities, supporting the business development team in all aspects of its expansion into Europe with new categories (such as vitamins, OTC, and clinical trial drug sourcing) (ii) MGPS’s global services and procurement agreements with pharmaceutical manufacturers and (iii) MGPS’s private label pharmaceuticals business in Europe. Agreement types may include, without limitation, supply contracts, business partner agreements, consulting services agreements, freight and logistics agreements and a range of intra-company agreements.

Commercial contract negotiation and drafting.Identifying, analyzing, researching, and resolving legal and business process issues and making appropriate recommendations to business and supervising attorneyIdentifying and analyzing risk, determining the level of risk and required escalations appropriatelyConsulting on legal and business provisions in contracts; Coordinating contract approval and enforcement of delegations of authority as neededMonitoring compliance with internal McKesson business and legal processes and policiesPreparing legal presentations and presenting to senior business unit leaders, as applicableDemonstrating comprehensive understanding of McKesson business units (BUs), products, strategy, and operational modelRecommending and implementing contracting policies, procedures and processesCoordinating with colleagues to identify regulatory issues, assess business impact risk and communicate same to business partnersExercising independent judgment in escalating issues within broadly defined practices and policies.  Coordinate with McKesson’s Legal teams in the U.S. to ensure global best practice is embedded into work product.Work with McKesson’s tax and corporate secretary teams on various governance issuesCoordinate with law firms.Monitor changing rules and policies that could impact the MGPS business.Work closely with MGPL’s Compliance function in London and the U.S. to ensure corporate policies and compliance requirements are fully integrated into all work output.Provide periodic compliance support to VP ComplianceDrafting Compliance Policies & ProceduresParticipation in Compliance Program implementationCompliance projects collaborationCRITICAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

The ideal candidate will be/have;

1. A solicitor or barrister with a law degree and at least 4 years post qualification work experience ideally within the pharmaceutical, medical devices or broader healthcare industry with exposure to senior management. Experience within both a large commercial law firm and in-house setting.

2. Experience and expertise in drafting a wide range of commercial contracts (in particular supply and procurement agreements).

3. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; experience of working in teams and demonstrating strong teamwork. Proven ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization, promote ideas and proposals persuasively.

4. The ability to own specific matters or projects from beginning to end whilst coordinating with multiple internal teams and managing outside service providers.

5. Strong attention to detail and process. Ability to bring structure to ill-defined problems and intellectual leadership to problem solving.
