This is an exciting time to join St Mungo’s as we are now at the halfway stage of our five year organisational strategy. Our ambition is to end homelessness and we are working hard to reverse the increase in people sleeping rough in England. In the areas where we work, we aim to halve the number of people sleeping rough by 2021. To support this ambition we are expanding our services to people sleeping rough, across London.

In response to the governments Rough Sleeping Strategy and commitment to end Rough Sleeping by 2027 St Mungo’s are looking to recruit Assessment & Reconnection workers for our West London ‘Somewhere Safe to Stay’ Hub. This is an exciting position to work with partners in seven West London boroughs to prevent homelessness and Rough Sleeping.

Our challenge is to quickly help people avoid rough sleeping and, through our assessment hubs, help them find alternative accommodation so they can avoid the dangers of rough sleeping.

We are looking for talented people who share our ambition to prevent and end rough sleeping. In the role of an Assessment & Reconnection worker, your focus will be to carry out comprehensive assessments for those at imminent risk of rough sleeping and quickly help to reconnect them with supported networks in their home area or where they have a proven link.

Experience of working with vulnerable people or an understanding of the needs of street homeless people will be essential in this role. In addition, strong communication, influencing and reasoning skills as well as an ability to build positive relationships with clients and partners are also essential.

*Flexibility is required because these roles involve shift work in order to ensure that services are accessible to those who are homeless, at the time they most need our support. This approach can literally save lives. The shifts are a mix of early, late and night shifts but the rota is given several months in advance in order to support staff to make plans for their days off and achieve a healthy work/life balance.
