Do you believe in access to justice? Can you contribute to the regulation of barristers in the public interest?

The Bar Council is the representative body for barristers of England and Wales and promotes the Bar’s expertise of high quality advocacy services and access to justice for all. The Bar Council delegates its regulatory responsibilities to the independent Bar Standards Board (BSB). The BSB regulates barristers and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales in the public interest.

The Bar Council and BSB are seeking a new Vice Chair for the joint Audit Committee to assist the Chair of the Audit Committee in:

leading the Committee; and

ensuring that the Bar Council has an effective framework for corporate governance (including risk reporting).

Applicants must be practising barristers with experience of serving high-level committees and with knowledge and understanding of internal/external audit, compliance, and, risk monitoring are sought.

Appointments will be for a term of three years with a further term possible. The role is remunerated at £154 per meeting plus expenses.

Audit Committee meetings are held four times per year normally in March, June, September and December. These typically take place at the Bar Council offices in Holborn, London.
