The agency

The Playbook (part of the Hanover Group) was founded in 2016 with a focus on Sports and Technology brands and rights-holders relationships, working for the likes of the NFL and The England & Wales Cricket Board. Under new leadership in 2018, the business refocused to three defined areas of work and recorded impressive new business wins across Sport, Consumer and Biz & Tech.

The agency is now looking to fulfil a key role to support the growth of the Consumer team through bolstering existing client work and helping to drive new business efforts. This Account Director will oversee a major new client win leading the day-to-day client relationship across Consumer, Trade and Social media delivery. The individual will also deliver other incoming projects and retained work for consumer and tech & biz clients such as UK Music and PRS for Music.

We are open to consumer and B2B specialists but will hire based on suitability and individual talent.

Context of the role

It is an exciting time to join The Playbook. The business has doubled in size in 12 months, growing to 16 staff from 8 at the start of 2018.

In addition to being shortlisted for the PR Week New Agency of the Year, a brand refresh established the agency’s RESIST ORDINARY proposition.

Major client wins including The Football Foundation, Abu Dhabi Golf Championships and UFC within sport, as well as UK Music, 888Sport, Catapult and more.

Role Purpose

The Account Director (AD) takes a key senior role in managing client relationships, leading and developing teams and ensuring the effective delivery of campaigns.

The AD is a highly effective doer but is also a strategic and creative thinker, adding a valuable layer of insight and ideas to clients and the agency as a whole.

Account management should be second nature for this person, done with efficiency, effectiveness and thoroughness at all times.

Key responsibilities

Clients & Campaigns

Managing and overseeing the implementation of client campaigns, ensuring we deliver results and outcomes that meet expectations Acting as a key day-to-day contact for clients, understanding their business objectives, providing strategic advice and planning campaign activity Ensuring all work and materials created for each client are of a high standard and “right first time” Providing a high level of strategic advice on PR and marketing strategies Working closely with the Head of Consumer to develop and deliver creative content to a high standard, using a range of external suppliers Developing and implementing content amplification strategies using a blend of earned, paid and social media Understanding developments in social and digital media (including new platforms, technologies, brand opportunities and creative campaigns) Developing and managing client social media campaigns, across content amplification, influencers and paid social (working with external partners where needed) Playing a central role in our response to new business briefs from initial meetings through to insights, strategy, creative thinking and pitch presentations To proactively seek appropriate new business opportunities using your own network, attending industry events and directly reaching out to prospective clients Team & Culture

Managing junior members of the team on the planning and delivery of client campaigns, providing strategic and practical guidance, along with hands-on support where required Inspiring the team to deliver great work, going above and beyond the norm Working with the senior team on development of individuals, through informal coaching and structured appraisal processes Playing a key role in creating and developing a positive agency culture that motivates and inspires our people, living up to our vision and values Assisting with the recruitment process of new team members Promoting, espousing and demonstrating The Playbook values across the full range of your role deliverables and accountabilities Spending 65% of time on client-chargeable activity and 35% on non-chargeable activity (admin, training, new business development, marketing activity) Benefits
